The non-governmental Forum of the African Commission on Human and Peoples ‘ Rights was launched at 10 a.m. today in the context of the 46th session of the Committee, which is held in Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt) from 24 April April to 14 May May 2019.

The non-governmental forum works for three days until April 22, April, and includes discussions in the form of the main examples of migration, asylum, displacement, women, children and groups most in need of care, as well as the application of the standards contained in the African Charter on Human Rights And peoples, which incorporate and enrich international human rights standards also on death penalty.

The forum is held in partnership between the African Commission, the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies, the National Council for Human Rights of Morocco and the Arab Organization for Human Rights.

The Forum was opened by Ambassador Yusuf Zadeh, representative of the Egyptian Foreign minister, Dr. Maytra Soyata Majja, chairperson of the African Commission on Human and Peoples ‘ Rights, Dr Mabasa Val and Professor Hanna Forster of the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights studies and Professor Alaa Shalabi President of the Arab Organization for Human Rights.

The opening words underlined the importance of the role of civil society in enriching and strengthening the African human rights system and a number of key issues associated with mass movement and democratization, including in Algeria and Sudan, and the suffering of people in the troubled arenas, including Libya. Professor Alaa Shalabi President of the Arab Organization for Human Rights, made reference to the containment of the use of the death penalty in times of war on terror in the region.

The organization participates in an expanded team comprising Dr. Hafez Abu Sa’ada, Dr. Abdel Moneim el-Hurra, Prof. Ahmed Hamza, Prof. Heidi Ali Al Tayeb and Professor Islam Abu al-Ainain. Prof. Sidi Osman Ould Cheikh, Prof. Nabil Adib and Mr. Essam Shiha are later joined by the organization’s team.

The organization and its partners also hold a number of side events on the margins of the committee.
