10 October 2017: as part of the celebration of the International Day for the Abolition of the Death Penalty, a 10-day event was held in commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the International Day for the Abolition of the Death Penalty. The event was entitled “Arts for the right to life.” A press conference was held with the partners, which are mainly The Tunisian Coalition for the Abolition of the Death Penalty and the Tunisian League for the Defense of Human Rights in order to announce this event. The main activities of this event were a photo exhibition of the paintings drawn by the civic education clubs regarding abolition of the death penalty. The exhibition lasted for 10 days at the Culture House Ibn Rachig in Tunis and there was an open dialogue with visitors all the time about their opinion and their positions on the death penalty.

In addition, a play entitled “Sacrifice” was presented on the death penalty. At the end of the presentation, a discussion was opened between the actors, the director and the viewers who watched the play and the discussion was moderated by the Arab Institute for Human Rights and The Tunisian Coalition for the Abolition of the Death Penalty and the Tunisian League for the Defense of Human Rights.

A documentary film about the 2016 conference in Oslo and another film entitled “les enfant de belle ville” was also shown. At the end of each presentation, a panel discussion was held with the audience about their views on the death penalty and in fact the panel discussions held with the attendants were good, especially when mixing the rights approach with the artistic approach.
