Press Releases … Launch of the National symposium on “Modernization of the penal Legislation in Egypt”

The National symposium on “Modernization of penal Legislation in Egypt”, organized by the Arab Organization for Human Rights in the context of the international project on “Strengthening the Role of Civil Society in Promoting Criminal Justice and Reducing the Death Penalty”, which was launched at 10:00 am in 6-7 April 2019, with the collaboration of Hands of Cain, Italy.

The symposium comes in partnership with the National Council for Human Rights in Egypt, and was opened by Mr. Alaa Shalaby( President of the Arab Organization for Human Rights), Mr. Mohamed Faik( President of the National Council for Human Rights), and Ambassador Ahmed Ihab gamal Al-Din( Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights)also Abdullah Assar, (representative of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council), the judge Hani Georgy, (the head of the General Department for Human Rights in the Attorney General’s Representative), and the judge Yasser Nabil (representative of the Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives).

The symposium will be attended by representatives of executive, legislative, judicial state authorities and professors of criminal law, civil society and media organizations.

The symposium will discuss criminal reform issues, particularly the modernization of the Egyptian Penal Code, the reduction of the use of the death penalty, strengthening of the response to human rights violations and the promotion of alternative penalties for Sanctions against freedoms, and the development of the Code of Criminal Procedure to promote fair trial guarantees and the treatment of pre-trial detention.
